Water Column Clarity

​Water clarity was measured at seven locations in the Providence River and Seekonk River estuaries on August 14, 2024. Rainfall totaling 1.32 inches was recorded at TF Green in the five days prior to the survey. Secchi depth averaged 1.6 meters. The lowest clarity this week (1.3 meters) was measured at Edgewood Yacht Club, while the greatest clarity (2.0 meters) was measured at Point St Bridge. There was no evidence of a north-to-south gradient of increasing water clarity among the sites this week.​

Water Column Clarity

​Water clarity was measured at seven locations in the Providence River and Seekonk River estuaries on August 7, 2024. Rainfall totaling 1.02 inches was recorded at TF Green in the five days prior to the survey and the morning of. Secchi depth averaged 1.8 meters. The lowest clarity this week (1.5 meters) was measured at Phillipsdale Landing, while the greatest clarity (2.1 meters) was measured at Edgewood Yacht Club. There was no evidence of a north-to-south gradient of increasing water clarity among the sites this week. ​

Water Column Clarity

​Water clarity was measured at seven locations in the Providence River and Seekonk River estuaries on August 1, 2024. Rainfall totaling 1.34 inches was recorded at TF Green in the five days prior to the survey. Secchi depth averaged 2.0 meters. The lowest clarity this week (1.6 meters) was measured at Phillipsdale Landing, while the greatest clarity (2.7 meters) was measured at Point Street Bridge. There was no evidence of a north-to-south gradient of increasing water clarity among the sites this week.​

Surface Mapping

​Surface chlorophyll data were collected on August 21, 2024 while the R/V Monitor was underway collecting nutrient samples in the Providence and Seekonk River estuaries. The average chlorophyll concentrations were categorized as good in the Seekonk River and Northern Providence River Channel, and as fair in all other areas. Overall, chlorophyll ranged 0.93 to 20.56 µg/L with an average of 4.42 µg/L. The chlorophyll concentrations from this date are presented in the map below using Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) interpolation.

Surface Mapping

The average chlorophyll concentrations were categorized as poor in the Seekonk River, and as fair in all other areas. Overall, chlorophyll ranged 1.31 to 109.86 µg/L with an average of 19.45 µg/L. The chlorophyll concentrations from this date are presented in the map below using Inverse Distance Weighting (IDW) interpolation.
